Overview

Doggie’s Pizza, located at 135 E Calder Way in the heart of State College, PA, stands out as a beloved local spot for pizza takeaway. Its reputation is built not only on quality pies but also on a warm, welcoming atmosphere that draws in a wide mix of patrons—from college students to families and local sports fans.

The menu is a vibrant blend of creative signature pizzas and enticing starters. Offerings like the Veggie Overload and Bacon Chicken Ranch provide hearty, flavorful options, while unique pies such as the Popper Pie and Pork Heaven satisfy those looking for something a little different. Starters like garlic knots and jalapeno poppers kick off meals with a satisfying crunch, and the inclusion of fun appetizers like giant pickles and pretzels add a playful touch.

What truly sets Doggie’s apart is the combination of quality food and exceptional service. Customers frequently praise the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff. For example, Shannon Gilroy highlights how the owners went above and beyond by donating 20 hot, fresh pizzas during a busy weekend event, a gesture that speaks volumes about the community spirit Doggie’s fosters.

The location itself offers more than just food; it’s a social hub with a laid-back vibe. There’s a cool courtyard area perfect for enjoying a drink on a mild evening while catching a game on a big screen, catering well to the college crowd who appreciate a casual spot to relax. Kavita Ayyar’s praise for the iced coffee and live music underlines the establishment’s appeal as a lively, enjoyable hangout beyond just dining.

Doggie’s hits a unique sweet spot between a traditional pizzeria’s comforting familiarity and a downtown bar’s energetic social scene. Families appreciate the nostalgic touches—like cooking hot dogs on a pizza roller grill, which Terry Wenker fondly recalls—while younger visitors enjoy the friendly, polite staff and kid-friendly menu choices.

While some find the pizza itself simply solid rather than exceptional, the overall experience keeps locals coming back. The focus on community-oriented service, variety in their menu, and welcoming environment make Doggie’s Pizza a standout in State College’s pizza scene.

For those seeking a reliable slice, a place to gather with friends, or just a quick, friendly bite, Doggie’s Pizza offers a flavorful, inviting stop right near Penn State’s campus.

Doggie's has the best pizza in State College but even better than the pizza is the service! Everyone I've come in contact with has always been happy and helpful. I went in to pick up 20, yes 20 Pizzas that the owners graciously donated to the PSU Men's Rugby team and it was the Banana Crawl weekend. As on can assume SC and Doggie's were packed! But our pizzas were hot and perfect! Doggie's pizza is the #1 for me in State College!

Best college drinking experience I’ve had on state college. It’s not always that crowded, the live music is a hit, I am a personal fan of the iced coffee drink. The pizza is decent, def the best in the area, and it’s nice to sit outside when weather permits, if you don’t want to be inside the bar

Everything I'd expect at a real Penn State State College, Pennsylvania pizzeria in their hot dogs were so delicious to my 14-year-old daughter. They cooked them in the pizza oven on the roller grill like I used to work 20 years ago or more? Service was very friendly and very understanding. We just walked in and decided to order. Waiting on a phone screen to be replaced. A block away killing time and they served us fresh pizza and fresh cooked hot dogs. I'll give this to Golden seal of my places to stop at if you're looking for food or a bite to eat quick, friendly and in Penn State in the alleyways!

Cool bar in downtown State College. Nice courtyard Area to sit outside and enjoy a drink and catch the game on the big screen. Not too much of a food selection and the pizza was just ok.
